Michelle Shelfer joins an elite group of professionals committed to excellence in the treatment of eating disorders who desire to mentor, educate and encourage other clinicians in this field who are seeking iaedp’s Traditional Certification.

Michelle attended East Carolina University to begin her B.S. in Nutrition Sciences and received her B.S. in Nutrition at University of Arizona. After schooling she went to the Geisinger Medical Center in Pennsylvania, for her dietetic internship.

For several years Michelle has been a licensed and registered dietitian serving local organizations like Willow Place, Carolina Resource Center for Eating Disorders, Hendersonville Family Medical Center, and Solstice East therapeutic boarding school for girls. Currently, she is the Nutrition Director at Willow Place and she also has her own private practice in Asheville, NC (WNC Nutrition Counseling and Services).

With her extensive background as a certified group fitness instructor, she is able to offer movement classes as well as creating individual exercise plans to suit the needs of clients. Michelle also leads an intuitive eating class, nutrition class, meal planning workshops, grocery store outings, and supportive meal groups at local restaurants through Willow Place.

She has worked for both in-patient and out-patient facilities, as well has having a private practice treating people with eating disorders.

Michelle’s approach supporting people to develop a more sustainable relationship with food and fitness is both gentle and realistic. ‘Improvement not perfection’ and ‘slow and steady wins the race’ are two mottos she most likes to use.

Michelle currently lives with her husband, daughter, and various animals in Asheville, NC!
