Breaking Through the Trifecta: Obesity, Binge Eating Disorder and Bariatrics  by  Megan A. Kniskern MS, RD, LD/N, CEDRD-S

It is easy to put people into categories; obese, skinny, healthy, fit, eating disordered. However, these categories are manifested through clinical values that can’t evaluate emotional connections and burdens. Let’s highlight the similarities between three populations to breakdown their differences. Identifying effective supports for someone who is overweight with no body image struggles, who has BED but is too isolated to receive support, or is 5 years post-bariatric surgery and just now seeing the implications of their decision. The guidelines for nutrition evaluation and criteria for care, and a summary of the unique critical nutrition interventions for each diagnosis will be summarized for clinical application.
